About the UW Dance Program
The UW Dance Program offers a dance minor and a dance major, culminating in a Bachelor of Arts degree. The program also offers a Master of Fine Arts degree for professional dancers. The program serves approximately 40 undergraduate dance majors, 80 minors, 6 graduate students, and over 900 non-major students who enroll in dance courses each quarter. The Program is staffed by five full-time faculty, a part-time Music Director and Production Manager, and several part-time instructors. Facilities include three large dance studios; an intimate 238-seat studio theatre and the 1,200 seat Meany Theatre.

The dance major curriculum offers a highly integrated course of study with a rigorous balance between creative work and academic study. Students investigate dance as an art form and as a cultural practice, and are given the opportunity to explore dance from multiple perspectives. Ballet and modern dance are the primary techniques, along with courses in salsa, Latin and ballroom dance, swing, world dance forms, somatic practices, and jazz. The Dance Program produces four concerts annually. Guest residencies and master classes with renowned dancers and choreographers are offered annually. The undergraduate curriculum serves as preparation for graduate study, performance careers, dance related occupations such as physical therapy and dance therapy, and other fields demanding strong communication skills, creativity, commitment, and the ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Seattle is home to the Pacific Northwest Ballet, the Seattle Opera, Seattle Symphony as well as a thriving contemporary dance community. The UW World Series at Meany Theater, On The Boards, and the Seattle Theatre Group bring internationally acclaimed dance companies to Seattle on an ongoing basis.
