Description & Requirement Chapman University seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Digital Arts in its nationally recognized Dodge College of Film and Media Arts beginning August 2009. Qualifications
We are looking for a highly skilled professional to provide leadership in the development of the B.F.A. in Digital Arts, which has 75 majors in the second year of a four-year program build out. We seek a passionate storyteller and artist with an in-depth knowledge of the computer-based tools of animation, compositing, and digital effects who can teach the tools in the context of their use in the world of moving image storytelling. The ideal candidate would bring experience in filmmaking or storytelling in the digital arts along with a desire to help build a distinctive program within a film school that embraces leading edge technology in the service of story.
The successful candidate will have an advanced degree and/or significant professional experience in appropriate fields: the creation and production of animated films and/or films that include digital elements critical to storytelling. We seek individuals with teaching experience who have a background in art, design, and skills in the major programs (Maya, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects etc.) central to this field; desirable related fields/areas: experience in motion capture, digital compositing, production, sound.
The successful candidate will be committed to teaching as well as continuing his or her own professional work.
Responsibilities
Faculty duties include teaching introductory and advanced courses in animation, 2D and 3D graphics and supervising the creation of films using digital tools from start to finish;
academic advising; program development and service to the school and university. The teaching load is three courses per semester in addition to continued professional work and/or research and scholarship.
