Description & Requirement University of Maine - Assistant Professor of Counselor Education
The University of Maine invites applications for an academic year, tenure-track position for an assistant professor in Counselor Education in the College of Education and Human Development beginning Fall 2009.
Responsibilities: The Counselor Education program is seeking a colleague committed to excellence in research, scholarship, and teaching. We seek a person with strong leadership and mentoring skills for the following:
1) Masters level Mental Health Counseling Program
2) Masters level School Counseling Program
3) Certificate of Advanced Studies Program
4) Doctoral Program for Counselor Educators
The successful candidate will be committed to a program moving towards greater visibility with a highly competitive research agenda. Duties include teaching core courses, providing supervision of counseling practica/internships, academic advising, and mentoring doctoral students in research and teaching. The successful candidate will have an active research agenda leading to publications, potential grants, and conference presentations. Our program is strongly committed to public service and seeks a colleague who will provide service and leadership at local, state and national levels. Given our statewide commitment, some teaching may be off-site and/or use distance technologies.
Qualifications: Ph.D./Ed.D in counseling or closely related field by August 31st, 2009. Licensed or license-eligible for clinical mental health professional in the state of Maine. Evidence of strong potential for high quality scholarship, research, and college teaching. Expertise in diversity issues and diverse approaches to counseling is highly desirable. Eligibility for certification as a school counselor is a great asset. We seek a candidate with ideas and professional experiences that have implications for the future of the counseling profession as a whole, in schools and in the private sector.
