Description & Requirement POSITION SUMMARY: The Department of Biology at UNM is seeking a Department Administrator 3 who will work closely with the department chair and associate chairs to oversee the administration of a complex academic department that includes a large staff of both state and grant-funded employees, a diverse grant portfolio, a large and heterogeneous faculty (tenure track faculty, lecturers, and research faculty) and a large undergraduate and graduate student population. Responsibilities include oversight of fiscal and budgetary management, hiring and supervision of state-funded staff, expertise with conflict resolution, human resource administration, facilities and resource management, coordination of contract and grant efforts, development and implementation of operational procedures including arranging for back-up staffing, organization of special departmental events and participation in fund-raising activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED; Directly related management expertise in fiscal services, administration, and human resources gained through either 2 years of equivalent-level work experience OR completion of the UNM Management Academy.
At least 5 years of additional work experience that can be demonstrated to be applicable to the duties listed on the job description.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to organize departmental events and functions
Experience in/with:
Using Banner and Hyperion
Oversight aspects of pre-award and post-award grants management with grants from a variety of funding agencies including NSF and NIH
Managerial and supervisory knowledge with a functional role as team leader
Fundraising
Production of departmental publications including newsletters
Advisory role to department administration
Preparing faculty and research faculty contracts and visas
Preparing reports to justify Departmental financial planning
