POSITION SUMMARY:  The Geriatrics division is seeking a qualified Nurse Practitioner as a member of a new interdisciplinary team, playing a pivotal role in providing palliative care consultation for seriously ill patients and their families. The qualified candidate will manage the clinical coordination of care for patients seen by the Palliative Care Consultation Service. Care provided will include comprehensive medical and psychosocial evaluation of patients and families, high quality pain and symptom management, and extensive involvement and participation in discharge planning and continuity of care efforts. The candidate will play a key role in the education of health care providers in pain and symptom management and end of life care. As a member of a new service, you will serve as a role model, educator and mentor to physicians and nurses at all levels of training while providing active support and collaboration with the referring service. The qualified candidate will possess broad clinical knowledge, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and will be a skilled and effective teacher.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
Bachelor's degree in Nursing with 6 months to 1 year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

State of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner OR certification pending, as documented by temporary certificate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  
Spanish speaking ability
Strong background in:
Palliative/end of life care, geriatrics, critical care or oncology nursing
Pain management and case management
Experience:
Strong in nursing education
In quality improvement
 
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Successful candidate must submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check.
Must be credentialed per UNM HSC policies and procedures, if billing for services under Medicare/Medicaid.
CPR Certified

Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
