POSITION SUMMARY:  
The American Indian Language Policy Research and Teacher Training Center is seeking a qualified individual to manage and coordinate the day-to-day fiscal, administrative and operational activities for a new Language Policy Research and Teacher Training Center. The Center will provide a venue for examining major policy issues affecting the survival and maintenance of American Indian languages and provide Native language teacher training for Native language teachers, internships, and assistance of American Indian tribes for tribal language maintenance and preservation initiatives. The Center represents a major effort to American Indian tribes and establishes new collaborative opportunities for service, research, and training. It will also provide the opportunity to build an international dialogue about language issues that extends to other indigenous languages of the Americas. This position is one-year only.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
High school diploma or GED; Directly related management expertise in fiscal services, administration, and human resources gained through either 2 years of equivalent-level work experience OR completion of the UNM Management Academy.

At least 3 years of additional work experience that can be demonstrated to be applicable to the duties listed on the job description.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  
Master's degree in Native American studies or related expertise in Native language program directorship
At least three years of proven experience:
With New Mexico tribes on issues of Native language revitalization and maintenance issues
Managing programs and collaborating with multiple funding agencies
Knowledge of:
And experience working with tribal communities of New Mexico
UNM Policies and Procedures
Demonstrated success and ability in writing grants
Successful experience working with New Mexico state, tribal, and local government entities
