Description & Requirement

Special Collections Librarian  The University of Texas at San Antonio Library is seeking a dynamic, energetic, user oriented librarian to provide leadership, organization, and instruction skills in the management of and use of the University’s special collections materials.  Reporting to the Head of Archives and Special Collections, this position performs collection development and assessment, and manages of funds in support of selected materials. Maintains donor relations and negotiates acquisitions for gifts and purchases. Develops public services in support of the use of special collections materials. Provides reference assistance and instruction in support of the academic and research use of the collection. Enhances researcher access to and use of collections through collaboration with faculty, professional organizations, outreach to the public, special exhibits, and other educational programs.

Qualifications:  Required – Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an A.L.A.-accredited program.  Minimum of one year of experience in special collections in a university or research library setting, including public services, outreach, and instruction. Knowledge of best practices in rare books and special collections librarianship, and the antiquarian book trade and collection development experience.   Preferred – Ability to read and speak Spanish. Collection development experience in Texas, Southwest, Borderlands and/or Spanish Colonial history. Instruction, outreach, and exhibit preparation experience.   

Salary:  Commensurate with qualifications, $44,048 minimum for a 12-month appointment plus benefits package.
