Mechanical Engineering Assistant Professor position (tenure-line) beginning August 2017.

Central College seeks a dynamic faculty member to engage with undergraduate students as they pursue a B.S. in engineering. Three new recently designed laboratories will be ready in August 2017 which includes a new mechanical engineering laboratory, electrical engineering laboratory, and a senior capstone design studio. The successful Assistant Professor candidate will have a Ph.D. (ABD may apply) in Mechanical Engineering (or a related area) and strong teaching skills; a successful Lecturer will have at least a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Central's new faculty colleague will be expected to teach Engineering Graphics, Statics, Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials, and Engineering Materials, Heat Transfer and MATLAB for Engineers. Candidates should be committed to undergraduate teaching and have an understanding of and appreciation for the liberal arts environment. Additionally, candidates will be expected to contribute to program development and assessment, advising and mentoring of students, and engaging in scholarship and service that contributes to the institution and profession.

Central's physics department currently offers a B.S. in Engineering and B.A. in physics. The department is comprised of dynamic and dedicated faculty who work collegially with each other and students to support teaching and learning. Students benefit from the one-on-one attention provided by faculty devoted to teaching and working with students.The department prepares students for industrial jobs, graduate school and research, teaching, engineering jobs and other technical areas. 95% of Central graduates who apply to engineering graduate programs are admitted into their 1st or 2nd choice of engineering graduate schools. 84% of physics graduates enter graduate school within one year of leaving Central College.
