Short Description:
Frostburg State University, Division of Administration and Finance, seeks applications for the full-time, exempt position of Director of Conferences and Events. Salary commensurate with experience and includes University System of Maryland benefits package.

FSU offers a variety of meeting and housing accommodations, available for groups ranging in size from 10 to 600. Centrally located on the I-68 corridor, the campus is just two hours southeast from Pittsburgh and two hours west of the Washington, DC and Baltimore metro areas. FSU will host about 8,000 guests in the summer, with groups such as Coach Wootten's Basketball Camp, Upward Bound, Camp Hope, the Phantom Regiment Drum Major Camp, Bethesda Soccer Camp, and others. Limited events on a smaller scale are held during the academic year.

Description of Ongoing/New Duties:
Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Finance and Comptroller, the Director of Conferences and Events is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all aspects of the Universitys summer conferences program and select events held throughout the year. We seek a highly motivated individual with strong leadership skills, a professional demeanor, and proven ability to provide the highest level of customer service. Duties include coordinating support from University service providers and recruiting, training, and supervising approximately 15 contractual summer employees to serve groups hosted on campus.

The bulk of the year-round responsibilities involve camps and programs that use University facilities during the summer months. The Director will market to outside groups, prepare contracts, and manage conference fiscal operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: implementation of marketing strategies to enhance operations and meet financial objectives, maintaining pace with industry standards and best practices, establishing strategic goals, and driving financial performance and sales growth. Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and at least three years of experience working in conference and event management or a closely related field. Proven ability to successfully coordinate and execute events, as well as to build and maintain partnerships, deal with external/internal clients, and provide extraordinary customer service. Strong planning and problem-solving skills are critical. Excellent interpersonal, writing, speaking, and teamwork skills, mentorship, and conflict resolution. Proven ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of individuals. Must be organized and a multi-tasker, able to focus, innovate, and succeed in stressful situations. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Valid non-commercial drivers license. Must be available to work long hours, nights and weekends, especially during the summer months.

Any combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in a related field and progressively responsible related work experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with conference registration software and/or event scheduling software such as EMS.
