Job Description:

The purpose of the position of School of Business Director of Graduate Business Student Services (GBSS) is to serve as a key administrator and advocate for the graduate academic programs within the School of Business. In this regard, the current position will assist the Associate Dean, Assistant Dean and the relevant Academic Directors by interpreting, creating and applying policies that directly relate to the faculty goals for the various graduate degree programs. In addition, the Director will be responsible for the assigned graduate program student experience, including academic advising, program logistics, and student life. This individual will be responsible for ensuring coordination and supervision of a multitude of activities, which in the aggregate, strongly influence graduate student satisfaction. Examples of these include course scheduling, academic advising, student clubs, event planning, and overall customer service for the assigned graduate students. The Director creates the GBSS budget and program budgets, approves expenditures consistent with each budget, and monitors overall compliance with each budget. It is the responsibility of this position to identify and implement cost management strategies throughout the Graduate Programs.

The Director of GBSS works under the general guidance & direction of the Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs at the School of Business. The Director provides general supervision to administrators and staff members in the GBSS office.

Work Responsibilities

Ensure the overall productivity and success of GBSS operations
  • Provides leadership and oversight, working with the GBSS team on planning, prioritization, and process improvement initiatives
  • Create GBSS budget and program budgets and approve expenditures and ensure overall compliance with the budget
  • Identify and implement strategies to improve budgetary efficiencies
  • Oversee the hiring and use of outside vendors
  • Work with risk management and other university departments to ensure compliance with university policies
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate program staff

    Identify and implement assigned School of Business Graduate Program services designed to meet the needs of students and to enhance the reputation of the School of Business Graduate Programs. Including but not limited to:
  • Develop the assigned course offerings schedules for the assigned graduate programs in conjunction with the Academic Director and/or Faculty Advisory
  • Committee and Faculty Chairs
  • Manage the academic advising services
  • Interpret and apply student conduct rules and regulations
  • Coordinate with the financial aid, student accounts and other offices to enhance the student experience through financial advising
  • Work with the registrar to aid the registration and enrollment of students and facilitate student ability to petition to graduate and complete all requirements, resulting in the highest degree completion rates possible
  • Identify and address technology and facilities related concerns
  • Oversee and provide leadership for orientation and graduation activities
  • Facilitate planning and implementation of student activities
  • Promote and support student organizations and other extracurricular activities
  • Work with student boards and clubs, to provide a forum for identifying programmatic opportunities for student engagement
  • Be able to work some evenings and weekends, to accommodate the various schedules of the graduate programs' students
  • Oversee communications to all assigned graduate students via electronic announcements, written correspondence, and email
  • Represent the assigned graduate programs at on- and off-campus activities.

    Identify and implement processes and procedures for improving and promoting the reputation of the School of Business Graduate Programs. Including but not limited to:
  • Identify the key drivers of reputation for the School of Business Graduate Programs
  • Assist in providing and verifying data for the appropriate rankings for the School of Business Graduate Programs
  • Collaborate with the Graduate Business Admissions area to determine best practices for the transition from student recruitment to student enrollment
  • Collaborate with the Graduate Business Career Services area to identify opportunities for them to effectively engage with assigned graduate students

    Qualifications:

    This is a senior management position within the School of Business and requires significant prior experience and track record with the varied responsibilities of the position listed above. The position requires a customer-focused personality, high energy, and ability to interact effectively with students, faculty and staff, alumni and community shareholders.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education: graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree is required.
    Experience: 5 years of experience in leadership roles in business or academic environments is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Education: terminal degree preferred.
    Experience: 10 years of experience in higher education administration, and will have a sense of both the formal and informal policies and procedures necessary to advance the School of Business Graduate Programs.

  • Spreadsheets, budgeting procedures

  • Working with students with diverse interests from varying backgrounds

  • Being able to handle the stress of last-minute deadlines and changes
