Salary Range:
$71,270 to $97,833 Entry Level Annual Salary (Academic Salary Schedule 2017-2018); Maximum Salary Potential $124,022. Note: Actual Salary placement is based on candidate's verified education and experience.

Position Summary:
This faculty position is a TEMPORARY, ONE SEMESTER, full-time, 100% FTE position as English Instructor (Enlace) in the Division of Language Arts located at Evergreen Valley College.

Position Purpose:


Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Teach a 100% load in the field of English composition and literature, including English courses offered to students in the Enlace Program. Course assignments will include such topics as, but not limited to, developmental and college-level composition and introductory literature courses.
2. Collaborate with Enlace Program staff to develop, implement, and evaluate retention strategies.
3. Attend Enlace Program campus and community activities.
4. Collaborate with faculty to bring about positive change in the Department.
5. Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.
6. Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.
7. Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as: participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.
8. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.
9. Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, program review, committees, research and special projects as needed in the discipline/department or district.
10. Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.
11. Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.
12. Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.
13. Foster a professional work and learning environment.
14. Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
This faculty position is a TEMPORARY, ONE SEMESTER, full-time, 100% FTE position as English Instructor (Enlace) in the Division of Language Arts located at Evergreen Valley College.

Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Masters in English, Literature, Comparative Literature, or Composition

OR

Bachelors in any of the above AND Masters in Linguistics, TESL, Speech, Education with a specialization in Reading, Creative Writing, or Journalism

OR

*The Equivalent

2. Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, gender identity, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the students we serve and sensitivity to and knowledge and understanding of groups historically underrepresented, and groups who may have experienced discrimination.

3. Success integrating diversity as appropriate into the major duties outlined in the job description and in the duties listed in the District's hiring policy; or demonstrated equivalent transferable skills to do so.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Training in and experience with implementing AB 705
2. Competency/FSA in any of the following areas: Reading, Literature, Non-credit
3. Success integrating diversity into the major duties outlined in the job description and in the duties listed in the Districts hiring policy or demonstrated equivalent transferable skills to do so.
4. Understanding of the needs of adult learners
5. Knowledge of the educational experiences and needs of Chicana(o)/Latina(o) students.
6. Knowledge and skills in utilizing cultural relevant pedagogy, particularly for Chicana(o)/Latina(o) students.
7. Experiences integrating culturally relevant materials into classroom activities
8. Ability to relate to and communicate with Chicana(o)/Latina(o) students and families and with Chicana(o)/Latina(o) professionals.
9. Bilingual/biliterate in Spanish and English.
10. Knowledge of Chicana(o)/Latina(o) culture.
11. Experience as a member of a non-traditional academic program for Chicana(o)/Latina(o) students.
12. Experiences working with Chicana(o)/Latina(o) community organizations
13. Familiarity with Latino/Mexican American literature.
14. Bilingual abilities, desirable.
