JOB SUMMARY:

The School of Contemporary Arts at Ramapo College of New Jersey seeks to hire a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor to join its interdisciplinary arts and design faculty team beginning September 2025. The successful candidate will teach courses that support the intersection of design, animation, and emerging technologies for students in the Electronic Art & Animation and Visual Communication Design programs. The multi-disciplinary program seeks to enrich students with the ability to apply advanced tools progressively in a socially and culturally diverse environment, emphasizing theories and practices within a liberal arts context. The new faculty member will support curricular development in collaboration with other faculty and must demonstrate an active and ongoing professional and creative/scholarly agenda that includes an interest in emerging technologies. The new faculty member is expected to be engaged as an advisor and mentor, and support students with professional preparation within a liberal arts context. The successful candidate will teach 6 undergraduate courses during the academic year while fostering a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment that engages diverse learners

Examples of Duties


Responsibilities:

  • Teach core Visual Communication Design and Electronic Art and Animation courses to undergraduate majors including courses such as:


VCD:

Fundamentals of Visual Communication and Interactive Media

Product and Packaging Design

Visual Identity Design

VA:

Basic and Intermediate 3D Animation, or Traditional 2D Animation

Basic Art & Technology

Video Art

  • Preferred areas of specialization may include but not limited to: Traditional 2D Animation, Augmented/Virtual Reality, Print Design, Advanced Compositing, Experimental Animation, and emergent forms of visual media
  • Cultivate the development of instructional programs and knowledge of history, social issues, trends, pedagogy, andragogy, and new technologies.
  • Be actively committed to advancing Equity and Access in the classroom and to
  • contributing to advancing a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion at the college in all areas.


Qualifications


Application:

Required:

  • MFA or terminal degree in Design, Animation or related fields
  • Proven track record of teaching at the undergraduate level (3 years)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in industry-standard digital applications. Candidates must show evidence of advanced skills/practice, articulate discourse, and knowledge of design history and contemporary critical issues.
  • Interest in curricular development is expected, as our curriculum responds to evolving pedagogical needs in the discipline.
  • Capability of teaching at all undergraduate levels
  • A professional experience in UI/UX Design, 2D or 3D Animation, Human-Centered Design and Application or Web based Design


Preferred:
  • A creative practice that is socially engaged
  • Experience in user-centered design practices
  • Expertise in Current and Emerging Technologies
  • Exhibition record of contemporary time-based media (may include gallery exhibition, film festival, or film/television release)
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary collaboration
  • Experience with innovative teaching methodologies, team teaching across diverse disciplines, and incorporating technology into teaching and learning
