The ideal candidate will be able to teach 2d Design and Introduction to Technology for first- and second-year students, focusing on helping students develop a strong grounding to support their work in upper-level courses. This faculty person will work with students who are art majors as well as art minors and majors in other disciplines.
Major/Essential Functions
At Texas Tech University, the Assistant Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.
In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
As a faculty member in the School of Art, you will be expected to:
- Contribute to the teaching mission of the School of Art by teaching courses in 2D Design and/or Technology in the Arts, demonstrating a collegial and engaged pedagogical approach;
- Coordinate sections of 2D Design by managing classroom assignments, curriculum, faculty assignments, and supplies, and holding regular meetings with faculty and graduate Teaching Assistants;
- Perform service activities, including attendance of School meetings;
- Engage in research to stay abreast of current trends and advancements in the fields of design and digital media.
Required Qualifications
- MFA or PhD in Studio Art.
- Experience teaching in foundations, 2D design, and/or digital arts at the college level.
- Strong portfolio illustrating expertise in an art discipline, including evidence of digital work.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Evidence of active creative practice in industry and/or academic creative contexts.
- Record of working with first- and second-year undergraduate students, both art majors and non-art-majors.
- Evidence of effective pedagogy that amplifies curricular connections between foundations, design, and introductory technology principles.
