The CATIE Department at St. Catherine University invites applications for a part-time (.50 FTE) remote Instructional Designer position. This position is responsible for the instructional design, development, and facilitation of online content and course materials for the Deaf Interpreter cohort for the Dive In: Building Skills and Confidence in Interpreting grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This position will work with contractors to support the achievement of the grant objectives.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Responsible for the delivery of educational programming for deaf interpreters
  • Teaching and facilitation in online immersion for cohort track
  • Facilitating online courses in self-directed track
  • Identify appropriate mentors for novice Deaf interpreters
  • Providing coaching to novice interpreters.
  • Support program participants by troubleshooting online course access and other technical issues.
  • Provide information to program evaluator as requested for grant reports
  • Identify instructional objectives and create content designed to facilitate the achievement of grant project objectives.
  • Develop courses with exercises and activities based on effective practices for adult learners, including material/media (audio, video, simulations, role-plays, games, etc.) with consultant support.
  • Review and update existing content
  • Identify appropriate mentors for novice Deaf interpreters
  • Work with content experts and consultants to execute online course designs.
  • Develop contracts and track completion of services and projects by contractors.



Hourly Range: $27.00 - $32.00

The salary range listed reflects a good-faith estimate of what we reasonably anticipate to pay for this position, based on market data and internal equity, at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and other relevant factors. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Linguistic competency in American Sign Language and English - bilingual.
  • Cultural competencies in Deaf culture and other diverse intersections of cultural identity.
  • Experience with curriculum/instructional design, development of online content, and teaching in online learning environments.
  • Experience in teaching interpreters (in credit and non-credit programming), with a focus on Deaf interpreters
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the development of video-based learning activities.
  • Experience designing curriculum/instruction delivery that engages students in active learning.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including:
    • Canvas Learning Management system
    • Google Suite
    • Video editing and production


  • Experience working with multiple organizations to implement program initiatives.
  • Experience with mentoring novice Deaf interpreters.
  • Experience with educational event planning
  • Experience with program management.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with program development
  • Experience with federal, state or local grants.
  • Additional technical skills including WordPress experience.
  • Knowledge of deliberate practice
